Bath & Body: "Liquid Gold"

So when thinking about skincare, one sees that humectant and vitamin content are the primary components to look for when purchasing the newest skincare remedies. However, despite the newest technologies and ads utilizing microscope imagery, nothing can stand up to the benefits provided by Argan Oil.

Used for its health benefits for centuries by the Berbers of Morocco, this liquid gold is rare & expensive stuff, costing ~$100 for 3oz. "Why?" you ask. Argan oil is essentially a miracle oil.

Its high content of linoleic acid, Vitamin E, and moisturizers provide amazing skincare, curing anything from acne & wrinkles to psoriasis & eczema. Its other health benefits include hypotensive and hypocholesteric properties, including cancer-fighting properties. Look for Argan oils or products containing it at Kiehl's or at Josie Maran Cosmetics.

Toys: "A Bullet with your name on it."

With summer in full swing, thoughts of beaches, barbecues, & bikes come to mind. But, not any motorcycles. Leave behind thoughts of those crotch-rockets and cumbersome choppers. Turn your attention to a living classic: the Royal Enfield "Bullet".

Since 1932, this bike has been to hell and back...and that's why aficionados love it! The Bullet is the signature motorcycle of the Royal Enfield company. A fitting name, "Bullet" recalls the company's early years as a manufacturer of rifle parts for the British military.

In 1932, these motorcycles became the bike of choice for British & Russian forces during WWI & WWII. Some were mounted with machine guns and side cars, while others were dropped from planes to ground forces in need of swift, all-terrain transport.

Royal Enfield's innovation and reliability earned it great respect the world over. Today, its motorcycles recall the company heritage, maintaining the mechanical simplicity and design of years past. While the cycles are today constructed in India, where a large part of their manufacturing has historically taken place, the intrepid, "Made like a gun." (the company's slogan during pre-WWI years) spirit lives on. Little has changed with respect to the mechanics of the bike; in fact, its 25hp engine and appearance are almost identical to the models of the 1950's, save a few modern necessities. Don't expect a crotch-rocket, instead expect to be seen in vintage style.

Perhaps the model of today, the Bullet G5 Deluxe is a beautifully traditional, rugged machine, displaying hand painted details and a restrained flair.

As an homage to past service bikes, the Bullet G5 Military is a show stopper.
Lest these pretty facades diminish their brute character, these motorcycles continue to dominate at performance rallys, most recently winning the National Road Race Championship in 2002. At the same time, their cultish owners take them on arduous pilgrimages to the Himalayas and back. Don't try that with any other two-wheeler.

Bath and Body: "Necessary Roughness"

On the seeming first of many soon to come muggy days of summer, I was glad to be prepared. In the heat and humidity, nothing refreshes better than an exhilirating shower. Key to this refreshment of mind and body, however, is the cleanser used.

My favorite (and utter necessity): Kiehl's Ultimate Man Body Scrub Soap.

A skin-care company which stemmed from an actual apothecary back in 1851, Kiehl's formulates the bar with botanicals like Oat Bran and Oat Kernel Meal, with a bit of volcanic Pumice added. This man-sized bar of soap is serious stuff.

Initially you may find it a bit rough on the skin, but after a few uses, you'll begin to crave the feeling of renewal the invigorating scrub gives. In addition to toning agents, the bar contains soothing natural elements and moisturizers which brighten your senses. It is NOT loaded with fragrance, but the bar's tea tree oil component serves to scent and rejuvenate the body.

Want to feel like a million bucks in your birthday suit? Clean up your act with this amazing cleanser. At $12.50 per 7oz. bar, its a luxury that is well worth its price. Visit Kiehl's online for more info.

Luxe quick tip: Dressing well

Is dressing well important? My answer is yes. What you wear makes a difference on how you influence the people around you. It is the first impression that usually gets you past first base in any and all situations, whether it be business or personal. Everybody around you are always checking your clothing as well as your swagger(which is a very important part of your look). People usually size you up in five minutes or less without even talking to you, so control the perception of you and always dress well, and remember if you dress like a million you will be treated as such. HAPPY FATHERS DAY AND LIVE LUXE!

Nightlife: Larry Flynt's Hustler Club NYC

Unlike the demographics of most gentlemen's clubs, Larry Flynt's Hustler Club of NYC makes a statement of good, clean, fun. On line to celebrate the club's 5th anniversary, it was a welcome surprise to see professional men AND women excited to partake in the festivities, which included an open bar on the roof-top smoking lounge.

Don't get me wrong when I say "clean fun;" there's no shortage or de-emphasis of the beautiful dancers. However, as opposed to other gentlemen's clubs, these dancers are elegantly, albeit scantily, clad. Additionally, the on stage dancing is tastefully done: no vulgar displays, rather a more seductive ballet of sorts.
On the roof deck, you're enticed by conversational dancers who, instead of dancing, engage in interesting rapport with club goers, clearly in the hopes of delivering the rooftop revellers to a private room below.
The space was very much like your run of the mill, tastefully appointed lounge, except here the dancefloor was an elevated stage where 1 woman was the object of everyone's "affection." The 3 bars inside made sure everyone's inhibitions remained at a minimum, while the roofdeck cocktail bar kept the outdoor crowd "warm." Everyone was focused on having a great time and tastefully enjoying the beauty showcased. Go see for yourself; the experience is very much luxurious, with its excess of beauty.
Do bring your own cigar to take in the view from the roofdeck (pictured above) overlooking the Hudson to New Jersey; their selection is quite limited. For more info, visit the Hustler Club online.

Nightlife: One, NY, NY

So you think you know how to party? U have no idea. Let's face it, to party like those whose lives are a perpetual fiesta (rockstars and the like), we need to get down when they're down...i.e Monday -Thursday. You heard me.

On that note, the place to be on any given Tuesday night is One ,located just south of and adjacent to the famed Gansevoort Hotel (Little West 12th Street, NYC).

Yeah, that's right, on a TUESDAY night, there's nowhere better than One. Here, table service is to be had @ one of the many plush settings surrounding the dancefloor(s). Candlelight allows patrons to view the drink menus while relaxing on comfortable, modern seating. The space, itself very modern with luxurious elements of wood, leather, and wrought iron, is a luxury restaurant by day, hedonistic temple by night .

Their DJ, like the club's ambiance, is LUXE, spinning everything from MJ to Jay-Z. The night I ventured there, it seemed he was taking cues from a famous colleague in attendance, DJ Clue.

At the bar, you'll find an extensive selection of topshelf libations...the well drinks are themselves made with quality stuff (e.g. Jack Daniels), unlike most venues. Their service is flawless and attentive as well.

With so many positives, its no wonder that, along with a slurry of models, celebs like DJ Clue, Braylon Edwards, and Busta Rhymes can all be found having a great time...on a Tuesday.

So if you really want to "party like a rockstar," there's only One place to be.

Get there before 11 for easier entry. Once the party starts, ~12AM, you won't want to be stuck haggling at the VERY selective door. Visit One online for more info.

Luxeberry

The choice tool for communication on the go around here is the Blackberry. Email, global phone service(exept in the trenches of Honduras), internet, text, organizer, camera & GPS are just some of the most popular bells and whistles of the rightfully nicknamed "Crackberry". If you dont have a Blackberry you might be thinking,"So what my phone does that and more". Hello iphoners please enjoy your ibowling and disco lights apps.

The Blackberry does have a standout feature I have grown very fond of and that is Blackberry messenger. If your still texting and CCing multiple parties then you are wasting time. Faster than texting & Yahoo messenger, Blackberry messenger will deliver your message the instant you hit send. Sorry Iphone people but when it comes to defending my Blackberry thats all I've got.
These days having a mobile information command center on your hip is a must. Whichever one suits you best is the one I hope helps you through your daily routines.

Besides any "app." or crazy functions we love, the most important thing in your mobile computer are the contacts. This is the reason when we loose our phone we go code red the first two minutes. The contacts are priority #1. But are your contacts up to par? Are your contacts Luxe status? Once upon a time having the most girls numbers in your phone or address book(remember those?) was a big deal. Now knowing three women named Kecia isnt going to get you out of jail. Here are a few contacts you must have in your fancy hightech mobile device. If you don't already then you're not serious; keep playing iblackjack.

-Lawyer(s)...not Pre paid legal either!
-Doctor(s)...your personal physician is always on call. Save it for the emergency room.
-Plumbers,locksmiths,electricians,mechanic,etc...when you find a good one keep intouch.
-Car Service...check May 13th post.
-Restaurants...if you've eaten there and liked it you'll be back. Keep the # handy especially if they take reservations.
-Concierge...not near a computer but need to book a flight & hotel? I've been there.
-Florist...if you dont do 1-800-flowers have a local shops # handy.
-Cigar lounges...just a must for myself.

If you have any to add to the list please share. Also if you have a Constanza size wallet filled with business cards your not Luxe. Add them as contacts or just throw them away. And dont forget to backup your phones memory on your home computer. I do it every three months. You can buy new apps but a lost contacts maybe be gone forever.

June 12th is National Nester Miranda Cigar Day!

In celebration of its 20th anniversary the Miami Cigar Co. is giving away cigars. This is customer appreciation at its finest. Also a great way to lure in those still in the dark about what a great smoke this is. Buy any cigar of any brand you like from your favorite Nester Miranda authorized dealer and recieve your free Nestor Miranda 20th Aniversario Collection smoke. These sticks normally retail for $8-10 and for the size and quality are very much worth it. Nester Mirandas special selection has become a new favorite of mine. It has an oily wrapper and reminds me of a Rocky Patel Olde World Reserve with less cocoa, but more syrup. Do not miss a great deal like this.
Barrister Cigars of Union, NJ is an authorized dealer participating in Nester Miranda Cigar Day.

Men's Fashion: "Always bet on black."

Last night Men.Style.com held their 3rd annual Women of Fashion gathering at the Palace Hotel on the East Side of Manhattan. In attendance were many a model and celebrity, especially those known for their avant-garde style.

Of particular interest, was the event's host Kanye West. With a nonchalant attitude, he made his way through the crowd talking to and posing for pictures with those in attendance. The event was an easy going evening, enhanced by its limitless libations and outdoor setting.

Here, amongst the rich pallet of fabrics worn by those in attendance, Mr. West, oddly, stood as a monochromatic monolith. Dressed in all black, from his footwear to shades, he embodied the idea of black's classic, timeless, and ever-fashionable character. A well-tailored piece in black, like Kanye's blazer, is an invaluable asset to any man who considers himself stylish.

In general, when you've run out of ideas or just feel like standing out (in a dignified manner), an all black ensemble will make you, like Kanye, command attention. (Fit, of course, is always paramount. See a well-reputed tailor.)

So no matter what the "new black" is, black will always be black...the most elegant of colors. An outfit comprised of black in various fabrics is ALWAYS a winner. Bet on it.

Places: Ashes Tobacconist, Bronx, NY

Perched on the southeast corner of Morris Park Avenue and Lurting Avenue in the Bronx, Ashes Tobacconist may seem out of place amongst the small, unpretentious eateries, bodegas, and beauty salons. As a cigar lounge and shop, the inherently haughty nature of its products and services seem to glare against its more humble surroundings. However, this glare is wholly inoffensive. Like the glistening of a diamond’s facets, Ashes Tobacconist’s glow intrigues the passerby.

On the evening I visited, I was especially drawn in by this glow which emanated through the shop’s large picture windows. Provided by a beautifully understated chandelier and various table lamps, the soft lighting combined with the shop’s classic, club room décor to create a truly inviting space. The smiles of the patrons seated within were unmistakably genuine; for despite its bourgeois appearance, the shop’s atmosphere is lithe and welcoming.

Inside, the crown jewel of the lounge is its walk-in humidor. Also encased in glass, the humidor showcases the shop’s wares on well-stocked, thoughtfully designed shelves. The variety available within this relatively small humidor would make other shops envious. Purveying the usual cigar staples, Ashes also caters to the aficionado who appreciates the nuances of smaller-production, boutique lines and the higher-end products of the usual suspects. Rest assured that these cigars are in perfect condition, humidified by several units perched atop the towering shelves.

Upon selecting a cigar and parking in one of the many comfortable seating options, one may truly take in the experience of the shop. Along with its soothing glow, Ashes’ beautifully designed space imparts a sense of luxury. The shop’s design was certainly a labor of love, so evidenced by its intricately painted walls, reminiscent of jacquard cloth, its beautiful crown molding, and its many beautifully carved display cases, showcasing cigar accessories. The exposed brick of the shop’s interior west wall adds yet more warmth to the space while its marble-clad bathroom truly underscores the richness of the space.

Despite its small size, perhaps 700 sq. ft., Ashes Tobacconist manages to pack in a great deal of ambiance and enjoyment for its clients. Its well-ventilated lounge stands as a gem amongst the few refuges that remain for cigar smokers. With its richly appointed interior and beautifully designed space, Ashes Tobacconist will surely become a destination for true aficionados.

Cigar Review: La Aurora Preferidos Ruby (Maduro)

So more than a week since I've returned from Miami, I'm still revelling in the experience. While there I smoked quite a few luxury stogies. None left me more impressed than the La Aurora Preferidos Ruby.

Packaged in a gleaming tube echoing its shape, the perfecto was a beautifully rolled cigar. Tapering at both ends, it was a throwback to classic images of cigars.

It was a beautiful smoke. Initially light, it gained in power and richness. The medium to full-bodied maduro was full of complexity, marrying notes of cafe con leche, spice, and a cedary sweetness. It was a great smoke that I did not want to end.

I was VERY happy with my purchase, despite being gouged $27 for the stick. (It can be bought (outside of South Beach) for ~$18/stick.) Some of the other smokes I had of comparable or higher price were utterly disappointing, but that's another post.

Don't be scared by La Aurora's blatant attempt at conspicuous luxury marketing; these stogies ARE great. Indulge.

Luxe quick tips: wearing sandals

The oldest known sandals are at least 10,000 years old. The ancient Egyptians wore sandals made of palm leaves and papyrus, do you think any of these people wore socks with there sandals? especially in Egypt were it was never cold. The bottom line gentleman, is when you wear those great pair of sandals, please do not destroy the look with socks. The only time you should wear socks with your sandals is if you are a inmate in the big yard or you just have not had time to peek at that Luxekultur blog. Oh yeah, as long as we have you going sockless please but please get a pedicure. ps. it is not gay.

Azucar Cuban Cuisine

This weekend we headed over to Azucar in Jersey City for fine cuban cuisine, live music, drinks, and cigars. All under one roof without a trip to Miami makes this place very appealing. Choose to dine outside under large umbrella covered tables or inside the dimly lit dining area. The affordable menu has classic cuban foods like the cuban sandwich and jumbo shrimp w/garlic. Popular items among our group was the Red Snapper and Havana Rib eye which everyone enjoyed. Pitchers of sangria really hit the spot. The bar, live band and dance floor is inside to the left of the dining area. Expect beautiful women dancing salsa & merengue. The big draw(for me anyway) is the luxury to be able to smoke my cigar after my meal. Head upstairs to the comfortable Cigar lounge with bar and kick back and relax. Cigars are sold but you can bring your own. Enjoy your smoke and order drinks from the couch.

Azucar is live and a very popular happy hour spot... 4pm-8pm Tues-Friday.
The drinks are not watered down and they make a damn good Mojito. It could be a long night... we suggest car service. Thank you L&K Limousine.
