Spirit Review: Tequila Corralejo... an unsung hero

For some time now, the Tequila industry has seen a boom in sales and recognition. Outside of Mexico, the US consumes about 90% of the export. With notable, well-marketed brands like Patron, its a shame that the hand-crafted tequilas of Mexico, those the Mexicans drink, go unnoticed.

Tequila Corralejo is one of them. Offered by one of Mexico's oldest makers, Hacienda Corralejo, this Tequila is nothing like the harsh drink Tequila has gained notoriety of being (especially at the hands of companies more focused on marketing than production). The Tequila Corralejo Blanco is an ode to craftsmanship and decades of distillery know-how.
With a gentle nose of citrus accented by an almost herbaceous hue, the Tequila greets your palate with a suave texture and sweet notes of stone-fruit. The midpalate is where the typicity of Tequila Corralejo stands out, with a soft spiciness and passion fruit notes.

If you see this slim, admittedly gaudy, bottle do pick it up. You'll be in for a great drinking experience... a luxury indulgence we can all use once in a while.
